Welcome to "Keeping Up With Google" - your go-to source to keep tabs on the recent happenings of the world’s largest search engine!

This month’s edition will highlight November 2023 Google updates and related discussions that took place in X (Twitter).

If you are a digital marketer, advertiser, business owner, or individual with a keen interest in keeping up on significant Google updates, we are here to condense the information to help you stay on top of your game.

Most of the updates rolled out during November were an add-on rather than a noticeable update. So, we have compiled a brief of each update to give a quick rundown.

Structured Data for Courses

Google releases Course Markup. Here’s an example of how it looks.
Google Course Markup

Course list markup carousel allows you to list all the necessary course details, such as name, description, price, rating, educational level, length, etc. Publishers or content creators can easily create a markup and text it in the Rich results test to check if a markup code is valid or invalid.

If you’re already using the existing course listing feature, you do not have to worry about your traffic. Google uses the same schema.org structured data type for both structured data markups.

Organization Markup Support

Google releases organization Markup support. Here’s an example of how it looks.
Organization Markup support

Organizational markup support helps you showcase your name, address, contact information, and other business identifiers to let readers easily recognize your site. On top of the existing logo and URL markup, this add-on aims to provide more information that allows the readers to access more details about your organization without extensive research.

Structured Data for the Discussion Forum and Profile Page

If your website is rich with first-person perspectives and creator's inputs, this markup can come in handy to you. The discussion forum and profile page aim to showcase more information about the creator, such as the followers count, social page, photo and visibility of the content.

As Google aims to deliver more authentic, fresh, and legitimate information to its readers, this add-on takes them one step closer to their goal.

Similar to the course markup, you can test this structured data profile page and discussion forum-rich results report to validate your markup.

In Closing

Google sent B=back-to-back core updates in October and early November. However, they kept improving the medium for the rest of November with more minor yet handy updates.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, staying attuned to these updates and aligning content strategies with user-centric approaches will be pivotal for marketers, content creators, and publishers.
